Any entity interested in adopting and implementing Navigated Learning. This includes use of the Navigator tools and platform, adopting a competency-based approach to learning, and an interest in measuring learning Impact.

What should Implementation Partners (who will use services) be technically prepared for?
- Partners need to have an understanding of SSO models and should be using an identity provisioning system that can be configured at Navigator for SSO flows.
- Partners should be able to share their roster data in OneRoster standards format, or via ClassLink Roster API.
- Partners should be able to understand competency-based learning models, bring in the frameworks of interest, and be able to map the frameworks to other similar frameworks.
- Partners should be able to identify, create, and curate content relevant to the competency model of interest; and be able to setup content working together with NLC.
What are the General Steps in Implementation?
- Decide Hosted Vs On-Prem
Navigator tools can be accessed as a hosted service on Gooru’s platform. Gooru will manage the operations and support of the tools. Alternately, Collaborators can choose to host the Navigator tools in their environments (called On-Premise hosting). On request, Gooru can support with netops for on-premise hosting. - Train your staff
Training is an important step in the successful implementation of Navigator. We highly recommend you to train your curriculum development, engineering, sales, and implementation staff to be involved in training to use Navigated Learning. - Design Content and Competency Framework
Navigator allows you to implement existing Navigator courses (currently Math Navigator designed as supplemental course with OER resources) or design your own courses from scratch or from existing content and courses on Navigator. Start implementing a part of your course or complete course by rostering your users and giving them access to the course. - Provide Feedback
Navigator is designed by you and for you. Your continuous feedback helps us improve the Navigator usability.
What is a course editor? What are the big questions?
A course Editor is the Library tool that one can use to build a course on the Navigator. Big questions are more from a Creator’s perspective to define the broad coverage of a particular course in terms of what it addresses. They are not relevant from a learners perspective.
What determines if and what content will be recommended for a learner?
The system supports multi-tenancy, Teachers/Schools can decide if it wants to make its courses available only to its users or to the general public. Accordingly, it can be made into a featured course.
How can students directly enter a classroom and go through a course? This is apart from global assessment and system-driven recommendation of courses based on the learner’s performance in the quiz.
Creation of a tenancy for students would solve this issue, as they then enter their tenancy directly and take up courses specifically made available for users.
Where does the proficiency assessment for the learner come from? Is it Gooru’s assessment questions that are used to identify the skyline and to identify the relevant content to be recommended later to the learner?
The proficiency assessment comes from each assessment as each of it is tagged and built to test specific competencies. Every time a learner learns a lesson/competency, an assessment tests the proficiency/mastery.
If the learner scores the requisite mastery score in the assessment (as decided by the partner in their tenancy, otherwise usually default at 80%), the competency turns dark blue in the learner proficiency graph and helps in locating the skyline.
If the learner scores less than the requisite score, the system can surface a reroute suggestion that brings up another set of learning content for the same competency.
How do we create a flow for the student to take lessons in order? This is to avoid skipping and moving ahead?
The student study flow is based on the competency framework. The lessons are created according to the sequence of competencies in the framework. The domains in a framework become units, the competencies become lessons.
In case a flow is required which is different from the competency framework flow, this will need to be specified presently in a spreadsheet to the Gooru team and they can set it accordingly for instructors to use.
The student experience for independent study, right now, still follows the competency framework flow.
Do we need to put up relevant assessment questions for every file uploaded in a course so that it can help decide which content in the course the learner needs to go through?
The approach in Navigator course building is to ensure there is an assessment (with a set of min 5 questions if possible) for each competency/lesson to be studied. The individual questions can cover the sub-lessons/ micro-competencies covered in the particular competency/lesson.
How will the vernacular content be shown distinctly in the list of available content for a topic?
As a teacher or content creator, you can use the language filter to search for content specific to that language in the Catalogue. On the learner side, the ability to search based on language is not enabled yet.
