How can Implementers be onboarded onto NLC?

Support Competency Framework development- includes Competency definition, Crosswalks, GUT, content development based on competencies

What happens when content resides in 2 different systems and there are constant metadata updates in Partner’s systems. Does metadata updates in partner’s systems need to be periodically updated in the Navigator?

Yes, this would be a necessity.

Is Navigator an authoring tool?

Learning Navigator is not an authoring tool, it only indexes content
Also, Navigator doesn’t store content; actual content resides in repositories like Google Drive and other parts of the cloud

Who collaborates with NLC?

Any entity interested in adopting and implementing Navigated Learning. This includes use of the Navigator tools and platform, adopting a competency-based approach to learning, and an interest in measuring learning Impact.

What should Implementation Partners (who will use services) be technically prepared for?

Partners need to have an understanding of SSO models and should be using an identity provisioning system that can be configured at Navigator for SSO flows.
Partners should be able to share their roster data in OneRoster standards format, or via ClassLink Roster API.
Partners should be able to understand competency-based learning models, bring in the frameworks of interest, and be able to map the frameworks to other similar frameworks.
Partners should be able to identify, create, and curate content relevant to the competency model of interest; and be able to setup content working together with NLC.

What are the General Steps in Implementation?

Decide Hosted Vs On-Prem
Navigator tools can be accessed as a hosted service on Gooru’s platform. Gooru will manage the operations and support of the tools. Alternately, Collaborators can choose to host the Navigator tools in their environments (called On-Premise hosting). On request, Gooru can support with netops for on-premise hosting.
Train your staff
Training is an important step in the successful implementation of Navigator. We highly recommend you to train your curriculum development, engineering, sales, and implementation staff to be involved in training to use Navigated Learning.
Design Content and Competency Framework
Navigator allows you to implement existing Navigator courses (currently Math Navigator designed as supplemental course with OER resources) or design your own courses from scratch or from existing content and courses on Navigator. Roster your Users and start implementing
Start implementing a part of your course or complete course by rostering your users and giving them access to the course.
Provide Feedback
Navigator is designed by you and for you. Your continuous feedback helps us improve the Navigator usability.

How long does it take to onboard if we need your help?

Generally the onboarding process takes place over a 5 weeks

Week 1 – Project Kickoff work session
Week 2 – Project Plan is agreed on, resources are allocated
Week 3 – You prepare your roster of students, define your preferred Scope and Sequence, and if required your competency framework and content.
Week 4 – Single sign-on is set up, students are rostered, teachers are onboarded and training begins
Week 5 – Import of scope and sequence and if required, competency framework and content.
Week 6 – Launch

What training and support do you provide?

We offer easy to understand training for administrators and teachers and in-depth training and resources, such as a How To Guide and support articles are available at any time on our website.

How do I roster my school, how can they log in?

Districts can begin to use the Navigator products by single sign on and roster integration through GMail, Classlink, OneRoster, or Google Classroom (upcoming).

What are the general implementation steps?

Roster Your Students, Teachers, and Administrators – Currently, we offer onboarding users using single sign-on with IMS Global OneRoster, ClassLink, Gmail, and WS Federation. Google Classroom and Clever Integrations are also coming soon.
Locate Your Learner – We provide flexibility in your learners’ starting locations. Districts can use existing NWEA or other standardized test scores, create a quick diagnostic, allow for teacher input, or use an approximation based on grade level to provide the starting location for their users.
Create or Access District Data Lake (Optional and at additional Costs) – Gooru can integrate with an already established district or school data lake or create one for you. This allows the raw data from a variety of 3rd party tools and apps to be gathered and analyzed in one tool, Mission Control. School districts can opt into this feature at no additional cost.
Training Sessions- We recommend at least two training sessions per year to our districts. Our first training session will give teachers and administrators an overview and understanding of Navigator tools and how to use them. The second training happens two weeks later to address questions, concerns, and explore how to get the most out of Navigator. Please note that due to the current pandemic, all training sessions are remote and conducted over video chat.
Customize Navigator Learning Maps – Math Navigator has a built-in scope and sequence that allows for Navigated Learning, but districts can choose to align our framework to their curriculum needs and standards. Districts can provide Gooru with their custom scope and sequence or choose from a publicly available option.
